looking back at all the years!
I went ahead today and did some searching here on Myspace and found some new people that i think would make good and interesting online friends; people that i feel i can have things in common with. Anyway, it all made me think back to how i used to be so many years ago when it came to the internet.
I first got online in my freshman year in HS, at school actually, in '96. Then my brother got me a "used' computer and my dad got me a year's subscription to the internet, which was just so awsome then! and especially for my dad to do that! I remember the very first thing i ever did was sign up for my email at yahoo: y up, it's the same email i still have catgirl211@yahoo.com. LOL i dont' know why i put the 211 there but the catgirl was because then, cats were my favorite animal, and of course, i had a cat (he's still with my parents). And the next thing i ever did, one of my teachers came up to me and another student and asked if we wanted to compete in an online scholarship program to make an educational website. Now, we had to make it from scratch... do the html coding and all that. So i learned. We of course didnt' win as it was a pretty simple website, but it was fun doing it anyway.
And then all i remember is going to yahoo chat and chatting and chatting away till morning! yup... till morning! and of course, everyone i chatted with was a boy or man. Never was it anyone else but someone of the other sex. It's like i had no clue that there was so much more to the internet than just chat and email. And of course, i did meet a few people in person as well.
Now, i look back, and I'm so different when it comes to doing things online. I actually explore my hobbies and look for all sorts of info, and i make new friends. But, t his time around, all my friends are women; moms, young moms, older, women that i can relate to and have good conversations with. If a man even sends me something, i think "what do you think you're doing?" and completely delete and ignore. Things have changed so much for me.
So now, i look at my friends list. And the only men on there are people i actually know, which are my hubby Frank, his friend Victor, and my BIL. Everyone else is someone i met online or even in person that is a woman. And i have to say, i'm enjoying all the great new online friendships i have made.
I sure feel like i have grown a lot since the internet came into my life! lol
