Orphan Puppies.

When hand raising orphan puppies you need to replace the mother in all things so don't forget that you need to see to the puppies’ warmth and cleanliness and you need to toilet them.

Newborn puppies cannot regulate their temperatures and they can not empty their bowels or bladders. They cannot see or hear

They can smell and have the sense of touch only.

To toilet puppies' use a little warm oil on a cotton ball and gently rub it over the area until the puppy has emptied.

To clean coats and faces use warm damp face washer make sure the puppy is well dried afterwards to prevent chilling

Feeding:

Weigh puppies daily and record the weights.

Mix carnation milk with equal parts water add honey (1 teaspoon per 200 ml.) This is your first formula and will be all that is used for the first 10 days. Depending on size and weight they will be fed every three to four hours, day and night.

From 10 days you may need to add baby rice cereal otherwise this is added at 14 days and the puppies are fed every four to six hours.

Weigh puppies weekly and record weights.

From this time onwards you need to cook rolled oats in carnation milk add honey, cool, feed puppies on this about

11 pm. To 12 midnight until they are about 6 weeks old.

16 days: scraped beef usually 1/4 teaspoon each around 10 am.

All other feeds are as normal.

21 days: Pal puppy food once a day usually about 2pm all other feeds as normal

28 days: Eukaneuba biscuits left available so puppies can have this free choice all day and night.

Your puppies are now 4 weeks old and should be having milk in morning, raw beef midmorning, and Pal puppy mid afternoon. Milk and cereal evening, biscuits free choice and porridge midnight.

They stay on this variety of foods until 5-6 weeks then you try them with eggs, cheese, other foods that you are eating to test for allergies etc before they are ready to go to their new homes.

Vaccinate with live vaccine puppy c4 at 6 weeks.
