Whimsy: the Wee White Won

Whimsy is a seven and one-half year old Westhighland White Terrier who doesn't quite understand that he's a dog, owing his name to acombination of personality and the aptness of the logo on the Wimsey coat of arms in the Dorothy Sayer novels : 'where my whimsy takes me'. Although his early life was difficult, being one of six siblings born to a teenage mother and an absentee father, he has prevailed despite the odds, which include blindness in his left eye (congenital cataract) and an early operation to remove the femoral head of his left hip (Legge Perthe disease). In addition, he suffers from osteopenia (deriv. Latin  ‘not enough bones’), although the latter is a self-made diagnosis. Given all this, his perpetually cheery disposition and his recent (1999) appointment to the Canadian space program are an inspiration to us all. He wishes to acknowledge his housemates, Atul and Celia, promising not to forget the 'little people' now that he's famous. Although he feels they're a bit parsimonious with the dog biscuits, he enjoys their company and frequent walks. He also wishes to acknowledge his pal Maggie, with whom he has spent some time howling at the moon
