Training

Bunnies can be better trained than most people think, in the most basic sense, they can be trained to response to their name, how to use a litter pan, not step into place where they are not allowed to go to, etc. Listed below are some of the methods I used to train some of my beloved bunnies. If you have other training methods, please let me know.

Getting to know you
When you first bought the bunny home, lock it up in its cage for a least 3 days to let it settle down into its new enviroment and let him get used to his own home.
It is important that your bunny is not let out of the cage during this time, if not, you will have a extremely difficult time training your bunnies later on. No matter how tempted you are, please also do not try to touch your bunny, let it settle down first.

After the initial 3 days, start to put your hand into the cage, slowly but surely, your bunny will come to investigate the new "toy" in its home. Try to pet your bunny now, if it runs away, don't force it, bunnies are by nature prey animals and being "safe than sorry" is the secret of their sucess in the wild till now. Now, again do not let your bunny out for its run, let is get used to you slowly. Let your bunny know that, "Either you play with me, or you don't play at all." Eventually it will come to know your smell and associate your hand with food (assuming you are the one who feed it) and play.

If your bunny is the aggresive type, try to feed it from your hand, as it slowly get use to your hand, its aggression will be reduced too. After a week or two, when you know the bunny is already attached to you, (which you will know, e.g. running towards you at the first sight or sound of danger) you can let your bunny out for its exercise.

Off Limits

Lay a piece of ground sheet or towel on the floor where you want to limit your bunny to (not too small please), open the cage door to allow your bunny to hop out onto the groundsheet. If it gets out of the groundsheet, in a stern voice, say "No!" and carry your bunny back to the groundsheet, after sometime your bunny will get the idea.
Of course, there are playful bunnies, but, never, never allow it to get away with it, if not, it will think that, "Hey, just now I was off the groundsheet and was not carried back, maybe, my owner will let me out of the sheet at sometime and not other!" That will definately prompt your bunny to find out exactly what the time is allowed to be off and what time he is not, then you are in for trouble, it will keep on trying until you give up.
Therefore, it is better to let it know in the first place that there will be not exceptions to the rule," You will only stay on the groundsheet and absolutely nowhere else!"

Litterpan
Litterpan training is extremely beneficial to both the bunny and the owner. For the bunny, only a small portion of the cage will be soiled and for the owner, you only need to clean that corner. The keyword here is convenience, if your bunny has difficulties even getting into pan, chances are your bunny will never use it.Bunnies mark their territories with urine and pill, therefore they will leave some pills all around the cage. If you find that the big pile of pills is in the litterpan, your training has already been successful.
Anyway, first place the litterpan into a corner of the cage, get some of the pills of the bunny into the pan, for some bunnies, that's it, they will know that is the toilet already!
For other, it may be necessary to repeat this for several weeks, and sometime even this is not enough, then, you will have to find out the corner that your bunny like to use and move the pan there, continue placing the pills into the pan, sometimes, it will be necessary to take some of the litter at the bottom of the cage that has been soiled by your bunny's urine and place it into the pan, the idea is to get the urine smell onto the pan.
If even this do not work, try placing some hay into the pan, since most bunny eat and "shit " at the sametime, this might just work.
If not, extreme measures will have to be taken, first make sure that there is urine smell in the litterpan, then whenever your bunny urine elsewhere, change the litter matreial at the bottom of the cage and wipe the flooring of the cage with detto, again the idea is to only allow smell of the urine in the ltterpan and nowhere else.
If you haven't given up at this stage, will bunny will, and will start using the pan.
