CITIZENS UNITED for ALTERNATIVES to the DEATH PENALTY
Get the Facts about the Death Penalty. There is an Alternative to the Death Penalty!
Since about 2000, the American people have gotten a much more nuanced understanding of the death penalty. Americans have heard from murder-victim family members who oppose the death penalty. They have learned about prosecution's misconduct and the mistakes that are far too often made, mistakes that have sent at least 121 people to death row who did not belong there, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. Many Americans have concluded that whatever their private moral positions on capital punishment, it is pretty clearly a deeply flawed system that may not be worth all the time, energy and money (incompetent defense lawyers, prosecutors suppressing evidence, misinstruction of juries, reliability of eyewitness identification, the use of jailhouse snitches and, in some cases, the integrity of police, and biased judges and jurors) . The factors that determine which cases end with death are arbitrary. The prestige and wealth of defendants, the quality of their defense, even the race of their victims can play into the outcome of a case. While blacks are far more likely to be murder victims, the overwhelming number of murders that lead to a death sentence involve victims who are white. And in the past several years, voters have not been supporting candidates who promise to be the executioner in chief, and they have not been punishing candidates who think the death penalty is a policy whose time has come and gone. "It's better to be rich and guilty than innocent and poor," said Richard Jaffe, a criminal defense lawyer in Birmingham who has represented a number of capital defendants. The Equal Justice Initiative's Stevenson argues the question is not whether these killers merit the state's ultimate punishment. "The question has to be not whether they deserve to die. The question is, do we deserve to kill?"

A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Hi Y'all!
Welcome To My Hometown Of
Macon, Georgia

My name is Darnell Moonda Fugate, better known on the internet as Moonda, Moonda50, Moonda50@hotmail.com or MoondasMadness.

I'm a proud Senior Citizen, a daughter, sister, mother, step-mother, and grandmother.

My birthplace was Grassy Creek, Kentucky (beautiful hill country), but have also lived in Iowa (wheat fields), Ohio (corn and more corn), Texas (everything is bigger), and Maryland (best blue crab).

My immediate family consists of eight members: father and mother, Wallace Marvin Jr., Mary Gladys 'Denniston' Fugate ; sister, Janet Marvlyn; sister, Sandra Marie; then me, Darnell Moonda; brother, Wallace Marvin III (deceased); brother, Leonard Monroe; and youngest sister, Patricia Marlene.

We come from a long line of well-known descendants. I can boast of Uncle George Clinton, elected Vice President of the United States in 1804 (Republican) and served four years under President Thomas Jefferson; re-elected in 1808 and served under President James Madison until his death. Uncle George was also the 1st Governor of New York. George married Elizabeth Denniston, daughter of Alexander Denniston and Katherine Montgomery. For more information on this historic family and their trips from England and Ireland, go to: http://www.frontiernet.net/~nrepard/notes03.html#charles

Then there is cousin DeWitt Clinton, 3rd and 5th Governor of New York. He served from 1817-1823 and again from 1825-1828. DeWitt's most lasting accomplishments as a leader in civic and state affairs was the establishment of the New York public school system. Actively interested in all scientific and social questions, he encouraged steam navigation and modified the laws governing criminals and debtors. Governor DeWitt Clinton's most famous accomplishment was advocating the building of the Erie Canal.

Other numerous descendants include mayors, sheriffs, lawyers, doctors, and most any occupation you can think of. Not to be outdone, there are also plenty of the ones you want to forget and no bragging will be done about them. You know, the black sheeps found in all families!

I have a wonderful job as an Administrative Secretary at Mercer University in their Division of Basic Medical Science. To read more about us go to: http://medicine.mercer.edu

My interest are varied as I have so many things I like to do. God has blessed me with many different talents that I try to put them all to good use: art (charcoal or pastels); wood burning; playing around and designing web pages on the computer; tracing my genealogy; all kinds of crafts; anything to do with children; and buying/selling on the internet auctions.

If I was forced to choose a favorite hobby it would have to be collecting Ty Beanie Babies. I suppose you could even call me a beanie addict - at least my family and co-workers think I am! Then comes my nutcracker, stamp, books, Chinese puppet and crab collections. I have so many of these items you would think you were at a flea market if you visited my home!

The most important time in my life is when I spend it with my church family at Wheeler Heights Baptist Church. I thank God daily for everything and everyone that is in my life.
