Windsong Samoyeds

Welcome to the home of Windsong Samoyeds, owned by Mary and Jim Kistner of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

We brought home our first samoyed on Valentine's Day in 1968. His name was "Frosty", and he gave us a really good education on the breed. We had intended to show him, but quickly learned that he really wasn't good for conformation, so we started over...this time with the help of mentor, Joyce Cain, of Samtara. She chose a lovely girl puppy for us from Gail Mathews of Nordic. We named her "Kameo" and soon she became Champion Nordic's Kameo of Windsong. She was the real beginning of Windsong, became our foundation bitch and is behind every single dog we have owned or bred since.

Our Samoyeds have always been raised with our family, and being a good friend and companion is of primary importance. They played with our kids, washed their faces and helped them build snow forts. The dogs have been to nursing homes...especially seeking out those who seemed to need a smile most. They have been in parades (see below) and mall displays, always putting up with endless attention and petting. We do recreational sledding, ski-joring, weight pull, and agility; but our main interest is conformation showing.

Our litters are few and far between...but we only breed when we want a puppy for ourselves. These occasional litters have produced a number of champions, including Best in Show winners, top producers, and foundations for other breeders.
