Caring For Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies
.
Care begins before the puppies are even conceived. The mother should be up to date with her vaccinations against distemper, hepatitis. leptopirosis, parainfluenza, bordetella, canine parvovirus, canine coronavirus, rabies, and Lyme disease. She should also be wormed on a regular schedule. Mother should be on a good diet as it takes alot of nutrition from her body, a good diet will help the puppies grow inside mom and make healthier puppies as well.

Wham- 63 days later, You now have a bundle of Neo pups.
A beautiful litter of Neo pups. 3 days old.
(strips are found on all colors of pups, they disappear at 5-7 days old)
It is recommended that the pups tails and/ or dew claws be removed at between 2-5 days after the puppies are born.  Most puppies will nurse on mom with out any problems but you do have  a chance to have one or two who do not, will not, or just wont, You might have to bottle feed these puppies, pasteurized goat's milk, evaporated milk mixed with equal amounts of water is fine. A liquid vitamin supplement. Remember moms milk is warm and so will the bottled milk as well. If the milk is not warm enough the pups will not suck. Even if the puppies are nursing on mom, You might have had a large litter and need to supplement bottle feedings on occasion. Examine the pups daily to see which pups are getting enough milk to eat. By 3 weeks old baby cereal maybe in introduced. At 4 weeks you may add ground puppy dry food that has been soaked in hot water (Blend with mixing blender). Then at 5 weeks your puppies will be eating dry puppy food soaked in hot water until soft. It is at this time that mom has less and less to do with her puppies. At 6 weeks puppies can start to eat pressure cooked chicken, gowned cooked meat added to there soaked dry food. At 6 - 7 weeks puppies are ready to have dry foodd out all the time where it is accessible for them to eat at any time. The cooked meat can be fed 3-4 times a day to assure your puppies continued growth. Continue this until 10 weeks. then they should be cut back to twice a day feedings for the rest of their lives. Deworming of the puppies should not be stopped until 2 months of age. Vaccinations should start at 3 weeks old. See the Vaccination Chart for more information on giving your puppy proper vaccination care.
