Puncture wound care
How to treat them without infection
Things to keep on hand if you have multiple dogs that do not get along or play to rough.
Betadine ( Dilute with water 10 - 1 or even 15 - 1 )
Betadine is used to wash out the wounded area. So apply liberally to wounded area.
Heticen K ( Made by Fort Dogde, For lactating cows )
apply this into the wound, Heticen K is a very strong antibioctic.
This should stop any infection if treated with in an hour or so of the inncodent.

This puncture wound was created when my
two dogs decided to brawl. Unfortunately for Russell, he ended up with a piercing of his
left rear leg.

This puncture was in the muscle of the leg.
You can see the swelling of the infection,
filled with Pus, this was very uncomfortable for Russell.

The Puncture hole was opened up and the
 pus was squeezed out.
It is good for the wound to "leak"
the infection is draining.

Soaking or wrapping the leg with warm water and Epsom Salt will help with the reduction of swelling.
In a bowl mix warm water to the Epsom Salt. As directed on the label.
Take a clean wash cloth and soak with the
mixture, with a moderately wet cloth, wrap it around the wounded area. And let sit for 20 mins. This should be done 2 times a day.

If infection continues to persists, Antibiotics should be prescribed by your Vet.

This was the result of my two males wigging out cause "mom" was out of town for a few weeks. Again Russell got the worst end of the deal.
This time drain tubes were placed (Tubes being the strings in his head)
Strings were to be slid from side to side 3 times a day. The large hole in the middle of the head was made by the vet to place the opposing string.
4 drain tubes
3 on the head area, 1 on the neck
3 area's of stitches.
You can see the swelling in his face.
Lasixs was given for the swelling, and worked nearly over a 24 hour period.
