I just wanted to say how helpful and enjoyable your website was. I "inherited" four rats from my daughter when she moved to a no-pet apartment. I was never a rat lover but these critters have won my heart! Due to my ignorance about their breeding habits I now have a total of 12 rats (and several more cages). My question is this...two of my albino rats bred and the babies are 5 days old and some of them are starting to show a distinct bluish tinge. Is this normal? Hello, I was watching Animal Planet last night and saw a wonderful segment on rats. One of the women owned a rat that had markings similar to a siamese cat. I thought it was an exceptionally beautiful animal and would love to fing out where I can get on . I have had experience with guinea pigs in the past. I believe my rat Rodie The Radical Rodent got into one of my plants. I came home from work today and she was sort of gasping, she had a lot of drainage from her nostrils, breathing very heavily, and just very uncomfortable, also blood was coming from her agina. I believe the plant is toxic to her, she had dirt on her face and feet. Do you have any information? I am not sure if Rodie is going to live or not. I have her calmed down and quiet finally, she is in a towel on my lap. I have given her some sport rink in case she is dehydrated. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, Candy

I'm new to the world of rat ownership (I bought my rats a little over 2 weeks ago at a local pet store). I'm 18 and I live in Richmond, Ont.;right near Ottawa. I don't know exactly how old my rats are but I'm pretty sure that they are less than 3 months o d. The pet store owner said that they might be pregnant as they were kept in a cage with males (of the same age). About 5 days after I had bought the rats the blue one began attacking the albino, at first it was just some minor scuffling but then it incr ased to the point where the blue rat would chase the albino around the cage. Before this they seemed the best of friends. I separated them and asked the pet store owner what was going on, she said that the blue rat was probably going to give birth in the ext few days. I've kept the blue rat in a separate cage for more than a week now and so far no babies. Also, until very recently I could not handle the blue rat as she would become very stressed and would,essentially, freak out on me. She remains jumpy wh reas the albino has been very laid back from the get go. I'm thinking about putting them back together. I am very skeptical as to whether either of them is pregnant, their appearance hasn't changed (ie.getting plumper) since I purchased them and when I fi st saw them (about 2 weeks before I bought them) they were very small. Nice page. I am a new rat owner with new girls. You can read about my problems on my webpage for the girls. Two questions: How do you convince a new rat that treats are tasty (our newest arrival won't eat out of our hand)? And, are there are foods that are edible for humans that I shouldn't feed the rats (by this I mean poisonous to rats)? My garden will soo be producing all sorts of goodies which I would like to share with the two rats, but I don't want to poison them. Thanks!

I own three beautiful rats, Mocca, Latte' and Sugar. (Got a coffee theme going here) I never expected to like them when my husband bought them, but I am hopelessly in love now. We started out with two, and I made him go get another one. Might go look f r another one to add to the cage. They all have great personalities.

I love my rats, especially Fink, my Dumbo. Grizzly is a month younger and still quite squirrelly, but Finky has always been so sweet and affectionnate. She loves licking everyone. She is so much smaller than Grizzly though-is that a Dumbo characteristi ? I'm dying for any Dumbo information...I must always have rats!

I am the proud owner of two wonderful creatures they are very intelligent, I got them from my local rescue centre where they had been dumped out side and just left, hoping I suppose that someone would find them before the CATS got to them first, any way I did. They live in my sons bedroom as my husband has not quite got use to them yet give him time.

I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of your other pets! am a animal lover, as well as a horse lover, as you can probably tell from my email! Do you ever take your rat for a walk on a harness? Have you taught your rattie any tricks or commands? What do you like best about owning a rat? Do you ever have to take your rat to the vet? Do you know any other rat websites? Wonderful site! I recently adopted (or should I say they adopted me) two ratties from Tammy and want to say that they are healthy, well-adjusted, playful and two of the cutiest (in my opinion) ratties around. Not only is this site great, it is nice to now that there is someone out there who knows about and is willing to share their knowledge about rats to anyone who is interested. Judging by the disposition of my two ratties, and having seen first-hand Tammy's "Rat Connection" I can vouch that she tr ly does know and care about rats (and other pets). Again, Great Site Tammy!!
