Because there is an over population of these innocent and wonderful pets. If everyone who welcomed a dog or cat into their family would have this animal spayed or neutered, the numbers of unwanted and throw away pets would be greatly reduced. Never being born would be a blessing rather than being brought into this world unwanted from the outset, and destined to bear terrible suffering and pain. When pet owners do not do their job as responsible pet parents the animals are not the only ones who suffer. They also inflict unnecessary pain and deep emotional scars on those who must eventually euthanize these animals.
We have known people who will not have their male dogs or cats neutered because this dog cannot have the puppies, and this cat cannot have kittens! How selfish? Have they forgotten that it takes two to tango? And how about the owner of the in season female who gets all up set because a male animal took every advantage of an inviting situation. It is mostly said to be the male animals fault. How naive?
The Thorndike-Barnhart Dictionary also describes a companion as a person who goes along with another, a person who shares in what another is doing. How many of us would like to follow these lonely companion animals down the countless ugly dark roads they must travel?
Having your pet spayed or neutered is not dangerous or painful for them. The cost to you is not nearly as expensive as it is for the resulting unwanted litters. They will pay with their lives! Lives if they had a say in it, they would have never had! It is a humane and loving gift from you to your pet.

Already I am a mother,
I am nearly all of two years old,
So far I have had ten off spring,
Soon to be more...I am told.
I feel oh so worn out and tired,
From too many hungry mouths to feed,
I saw a sign in my doctor's room,
Please family, this is what I need.
They carried my last sweet youngins
Off in an ugly big wooden box,
Why do I need to do this again?
While my heart bleeds and still I'm in shock!
Where are my sweet loving children?
Buried dead in the cold ground or worse?
This pain to my spirit and body,
Makes of my life a curse.
Not long ago, I too was a puppy,
All cuddly, soft and new born,
Life held wonderful promise back then,
For those warm playful days I now mourn.
I grieve in silence, lonesome and alone,
For me there IS a more humane way,
Please, let us go back to my doctor's place,
And ask them to do a spay!
