I have had two three-toed box turtles for some ten years now. From my experiences they are quite possibly the easiest box turtle specimen to care for. Their food preferences are any type of fruit from peaches, tomatoes, and apples to strawberries, raspberries, and any other type of berry. Mine usually stay hidden in the shades for the most part of the day and come out to soak late in the afternoon when it is shady. They are very attractive. Most have dull tan colored shells, but beautiful maroon, red, yellow, and orange skin coloring. Some specimens have very colorful shells though. My smallest female, rosie, who has a dark shell with yellow dashes.
