OUR LITTLE FISHERMAN - TUFF

(One zillion ways to try and kill grass when nothing works!!)

My husband, Jeff & I, have been working in our yard for the 3 years we have lived here.  It is a forever job (especially since Jeff does all the work! )  I do help though, I tell Jeff what to do, he enjoys hearing that from me (must be why he does most of his work when I am not around)  But I do buy plants and decide where they will go best.  We live in West Central Florida and our back yard faces the east.  There is no place like Florida to garden - year round! If you would like to know more about xeriscaping - you have come to the right place.

Here is Jeff - you don't see but he is standing next to the pond.  There are 2 things odd about this picture, first Jeff is standing up, he isn't bent over digging or building, he is taking a break!  The 2d thing missing is a can of beer.  Hey, a guy needs his refreshment, especially a hard worker like him!  You see, Jeff works hard all day as a construction supervisor, usually in the hot Florida sun.  Then he comes home and works hard around here.  (By the way, I work hard too, it just happens I sit at a desk all day and put up with that stress...and then there's my boss....he's a great guy....but a stress machine!)  When I come home, it is straight to the computer (I work all day at one, only right I should relax at one) and for Jeff it is straight outside to work in the yard.  Same rationale.

Don't feel sorry for him though, coz he has 4 helpers.  This is Rowdy (2), he was planting water lillies for dad.  The opening shot is of our 3 year old Yorkie, Tuff, watching the fish.  He is just fascinated with them.  The dogs love the pond and they love being outside.  They walk around and around on the rocks, they hunt lizzards and occassionally the fish.  Well, Tuff is the most concerned with the fish.  They drive him nuts!

This is our baby - Scout (1), he weighs in at 3#s!  His favorite thing to do around the pond is to hide in the vegitation, but he does go in occassionally and we have to wrap him up fast in a dry towel, coz he shivers so much.  The other day he crawled over all the rocks to the middle of the waterfall & marked it as his territory! We also have an older dog, Chantilly - she has cataracts - but still loves to be by the pond. One of the dogs' favorite things to do is to cross over the the river bed.

I know that mostly I have told you about Jeff & me (by the way, I'm Karrel - nice to meet you!

Here is a little about our ponds.  More is coming!
