EHSA Marsh

The EHSA Marsh is nestled between Canberry Ln. and Harkness Rd. and receives its water supply from Harkness Brook which runs under Harkness Rd. from the N.East and flows arround the end of Cranberry Ln. ending up in our Ponds.   Along the way it overflows during the spring into our marsh area.   During the year it displays typical marsh plants:

Native trilium and jack-in-pulpit festoon the edges of our marsh. The marsh area abounds with marsh marigolds. In a secluded spot, high and dry on a tree hip, a mallard duck nest sports 6 eggs on this date!

The duck nest is empty and mom and ducklings were spotted on the EHSA Pond at 7AM this Memorial Day morning wending their way behind the reeds and across the pond to graze on the near shore. A muskrat was busy assembling foliage for its home on the far side of the pond near the stand of reeds.

The leaves are fully out and canopy the marsh area.   Below in the shadows ferns are growing lush fronds and are festooned with small creatures including biting flys and picture wing flys.
