THE Mantel !!!

The fact that I have the parts for this mantel
is nothing short of a miracle in itself!!!
This is another item I purchased on eBay. The seller, mack1, found this mantel in a house outside of Boston that was slated for demolition. He salvaged the pieces and put them up for bid INDIVIDUALLY on eBay! Fortunately for me, he had mentioned in his ad that each item was just a part of a whole. I emailed him and asked for the item numbers on all the corresponding pieces, then I went to work bidding my head off! There was NO WAY I was going to let this mantel be pieced out!

mack1 has turned out to be a new friend...
He is as enthusiastic about this project as I am.
(By the way, my buddy, did you have any inkling how gorgeous the wood is under all that paint???
I've had to go to Plan B on the restoration...I can't bear to hide all this incredible beauty!
We're not sure yet...it's either oak or walnut...)

We were so excited the day the packages arrived,, we unpacked the parts on the front porch and started to reassemble them on the spot!

We didn't have enough room on the porch, so we hauled the pieces upstairs to the guestroom (the only room in the house that had room to spread out) and layed them out on the floor.

Sorry the photos aren't any better...
I've since changed to photographing in high resolution, and I try NOT to take photos at night...

Once we had the layout configured, I started slapping on some more of that Wonder Product
