These buildings were built at the height
of modernism. Bertrand Goldberger rejected many modernist
ideals and proclaimed 'nature doesn't work with
rectangles!' He loved exploring the sinuous possibilities of
concrete, and so came up with the corn on the cob shape of these
towers. This complex was not only unusual in its brake
from accepted ideals, it was the first complex in Chicago
that tried to lure people away from the suburbs by making a
24-hour community in the heart of the city. The site
includes an office building, a theatre, a bowling alley,
apartments and a river-side restaurant above a marina.
