My Father once stated as he rubbed his forehead,
that working can be quite a chore.
We all slave today to stay out of the red,
but we never can quite get ahead.
So I pondered awhile on the statement he made,
and it all started to really make sense.
Commercials and society constantly state,
that to have more is a much better fate.
We believe all those ads that say bigger is better,
and spend a little more than we bring in.
We tell ourselves that everything is grand
and our checkbooks just keep getting redder.
The ads tell us that to find love lose some weight,
here is the product that will get you thin.
It is only this much, a very good price,
to be a beautiful person in the eyes of your mate.
The ads tell us that we must have that new truck,
for hauling our lazy butt's around.
It has comforts and style that cannot be compared,
and it is yours for a few measly bucks.
Now I am guilty as you of believing the lies,
I forget the real reason to live.
It isn't to own the new doublewide trailer,
or to have a closet full of new ties.
You don't have to travel the all over the place,
to find out your purpose for being alive.
You don't need to entertain all of your friends,
you don't need to keep showing a face.
The Lord has told us all in his book,
the purpose to live is to love.
For all of the questions that slip in your head,
the Bible is where you should look.
