Batke

The Batkes came from Donalda and Edberg by covered wagon to Wabamun where he had a shoe shop.
They moved from Wabamun to the SE24-54-5-W5 at Darwell in 1927. The three boys, August, Walter and Carnell came a short time before their parents did.
Mr. Batke started a small shoe shop here and the boys cut willow pickets, selling them to Bert Enman at Beaver Lumber at Onoway, to help make a living.
August was through school when they came here, Walter and Carnell attended Darwell School until age 15. After the boys were through school they did the farming.
Mr Batke passed away in 1957. Mrs. Batke continued making her home with Walter and Carnell for a few years; later living in the home at Mayerthorpe and then at Stony Plain. They are both buried in Darwell Cemetery.
August married Clarice Shorten in 1933. They had two children, Billy and Bernice. August passed away in 1960 after a year's illness.
Walter and Carnell never married and still live on the family farm
