WOOLLARD, Annie (Celestia).
Annie Turnbull was born in Toronto in 1855. In about 1880 (1872)she met a young Englishman, Barnard Woollard, and they were married. After some years they moved to Nipigon, Ontario, where Barnard owned a fishing business. The couple had eight children. Glowing reports reached Ontario about the wonderful opportunities in the west, so in 1902 Annie and Barnard and five of their children arrived in Edmonton. Annie and the children were left at the immigration hall while Barnard went further west looking for a homestead. Attracted also by the fishing in Lake Wabamun, he settled on a homestead about half a mile east of the present Wabamun overpass. He returned for Annie and the family. They proceeded to their new home with a team and wagon, tents, food and a few household necessities. In the summer of 1902 the family lived in the tents while they built a log house and barn. Unfortunately, in the summer of 1903 Barnard died. He was buried on the homestead. Annie Woollard opened a small general store at her home. The "children" were now married and Annie later lived with sons in the Peace River District. She then moved back to the Wabamun area and lived in a little house next to her son Edwin and his wife Freida. She remained very alert until her death in 1943 at the age of 88 years.
Annie was born in 1855 and died in 1943. Rev. Cuttell officiated at her funeral.
WOOLLARD, Edwin John.
Ed was born in 1886 in Toronto. His parents were Ann and Barnard Woollard. In 1902 he came to Edmonton with his parents and two sisters and two brothers. They then came to a homestead near Wabamun. On the drive out to the homestead, the Woollards stopped to rest at the home of David H. Lent, a missionary-teacher on the Indian reserve near Duffield. One of the Lent daughters was Freida. It was natural that these two pioneer families saw as much as possible of each other and in 1918 Edwin and Freida were married. In 1919 they produced a novelty in the neighbourhood, twin boys, Edwin and Fred. Later they had three daughters, Marguerite, Pat and Lois. When the railroad came to Wabamun the mail was picked up there for several outlying points. Edwin or "Ed" as he was mostly known, drove this mail to Rexboro and Lac Ste. Anne. Later this route was discontinued. Times were very hard but Ed, always a good worker, found employment at the Lakeside Mine and later worked in the bush cutting props and timber. Ed passed away suddenly in 1966 at the age of 80. Rexboro church was not operating at this time so the funeral service was in the Wabamun Hall with United Church ministers.
Edwin was born in 1886 and died in 1966. Rev. Alden and Rev. Smith officiated.
