After getting my Master degree
at the University of Arizona, and having a major in Architecture ( a five
year degree from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa), I moved to
San Francisco, California. I now hope to pursue a career where I can contribute
to the improvement of Ecological Design so that it can become a more
marketable feature of Architecture.
Biosphere 2
(Tucson, Arizona) designed by Phil Hawes. This building is an example of an intense interdisciplinary relationship between architects, environmentalists and scientists. |
Leça da Palmeira tidal pools- these pools were designed by Siza Vieira and are integrated in the rocks | ||
The Commerzbank
(Frankfurt, Germany) Designed by Norman Foster. The eco-tower is a skyscraper with naturally ventilated skin and gardens in the sky. |
Santa Maria do Bouro monastery -designed by Souto de Moura, it is a 600 years building now converted into an luxurious austere looking tourist resort. |
Born in Lisbon, I am now 31
years old. Most of my life was spent trying to understand the Portuguese
architecture and urban planning. Soon after graduating in 1994 I realized
my concerns towards ecology and architectural rehabilitation could be combined,
and that is when my research in vernacular architecture and bio climatic
design started. My work in the MISART (Modelling of a Tourist, Environmental
and Rural System) project, which I joined in 1995, helped me realize I
should continue my studies abroad. I started my Master degree at the University
of Arizona in August 1997. My thesis is called "Preserving Vernacular Architecture
with Environmental Concerns". It is my intention to work in this field
as a consultant in the future.
In the summer of 2000 I got
married with Henrique Pereira, a biologist studying at Stanford.
Here is a photo of us at the Mosteiro de Santa Maria do Bouro and a photo
of our baby Julia born on January 3rd, 2002. Henrique'web page contains
some more information about our family and our fun time spent in the USA.
