ALUMNI BANQUET

The annual banquet of the Washburn High School Alumni Association held at the high school gymnasium Tuesday evening with an attendance of 96 members and guests. Tables were attractive with centerpieces of spring flowers. The banquet was prepared by the W. S. C. S., with girls of the junior class as waitresses. Group singing during the banquet was led by Milford Blackstone, assisted by Bessie Duncan at the piano.

Guest speaker of the evening was Captain George Forrester, director of USO at Presque Isle. Captain Forrester brought with him Pvt. Dominick Saporni of the Presque Isle Air Base, who entertained with several selections on the piano accordion and responded with several encores. Another highlight of the banquet was the reading of a list of the 70 alumni boys and girls who are in the service, by Supt. C. J McCaughey. The announcement of the annual award to the most outstanding student from the association was made by Principal W. C. Foster. The award will be presented to Miss Opal Borden of Perham at the senior last chapel. Other numbers on the program were piano solo by Barbara Blackstone.'39: and class responses as follows:'18, Florence Crouse Duncan:'28, Wilda Holts McIntire:'38. Edith Dahlgren. The class of '43 was welcomed to the association by president Henry Russell and response was made by the class president, Thomas Griffin, Jr. The class also sang the class ode. The nominating committee presented the following list of new officers for the coming year, which were elected: president, Woodbury Brewer vice president, Murray Allen. Jr.: secretary and treasurer, Mrs, Phyllis Allen; executive committee, Barbara Blackstone and Chester Haynes. Other military guests at the banquet were Lt. and Mrs. F. J. Pacza Assistant Red Cross Field Director and Mrs. Cornelius Milmo. 1
