Honor Parts Are Announced For Washburn High

WASHBURN, April 18 [1947] -- Principal William C. Foster has announced the list of seniors being graduated from Washburn high school with honors next June.

The list included all seniors who have maintained high honor grades, 87 per cent, or better, throughout their four years in school. Those listed were Laurel Crouse, Wilma Churchill, Paul Blackstone, Patricia Browne, Verdella Carter, Anita Dahlgren, Alma Sears, Wilda Silver, Alice Sperry, John Thompson and Iris Valley.

Foster also announced the following honor parts for graduation: valedictorian, Laurel Crouse; salutatorian, Wilma Churchill, third honor essay, Paul Blackstone; fourth honor essay, John Thompson.

Laurel Crouse, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Crouse of Crouseville. He has been prominent in all phases of school life, such as glee club, journalism, a member of student council, Spear contest, Augusta, editor-in-chief of the Northland, general manager of the Curtis campaign, cheer leader, National Honor society, a member of the orchestra, and played the lead in the senior play.

Wilma Churchill is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmont Churchill of Washburn, She has been member of the Glee club, French club, journalism, stage manager and usher at the senior play, National Honor society president, class secretary and treasurer, office girl, associate editor of the Northland, and public speaking.

Paul Blackstone is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Blackstone of Perham. He is an athlete, playing both baseball and basketball, has been a member of the student council, journalism president, member of French club, Glee club and orchestra, National Honor society, stage, property manager senior play, served on the Northland board, and junior class president.

John Thompson is the son Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Thompson of Washburn. He is also an athlete. He was business manager of the Northland for two years, Aroostook county speaking contest during his junior year, president of his class as a freshman, a member of National Honor society, Glee club, journalism, French club, orchestra, has been movie machine operator for four years and has a prominent part in the senior play. He and Paul Blackstone were co-captains of basketball in 1947. 1
