Former Washburn Official Succumbs

WASHBURN, March 13 [1951] -- Henry M. Russell, 49, former Washburn fire chief and prominent former Washburn resident, died suddenly Monday evening while visiting at the home of his wife's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Haines, at Hendersonville, N. C.

A prominent Washburn grocer for many years, he sold his business in January and went south. A past president of the Washburn Rotary club and an honorary member of the group, he was past master of the Masonic lodge of Washburn, and a member of Garfield chapter, Commandery, and a member of the Shrine.

He served as Washburn fire chief approximately four years, and was worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star approximately 12 years.

He attended Woodland schools and was graduated from Washburn high school. He and his wife planned to make a new home at Independence, Mo.

He was born in Woodland, son of the late Maurice and Eleanor (Tuttle) Russell.

Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Ruth (Duncan) Russell, are three sisters, Mrs. Edna Pike of Carson, Mrs. Mahaly Price, also of Carson, and Mrs. Lillian Plissey of Washburn; three brothers, Elroy and Merle, both of Carson, and Otis of Washburn; a son, Maurice, of Phoenix, Ariz., three daughters, Mrs. Betty Ettinger of Taylorville, Ill., Mrs. Mary Hall of Ashtabula, O., and Miss Helen Russell, a student at Graceland college, Lamoni, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at Independence, Mo. 1
