Washburn Man Ordained Minister At Baptist Church

WASHBURN, Aug. 28 [1955] -- Gary Grant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Grant, was ordained at an impressive ceremony held at the Conservative Baptist Church last week.

In the afternoon Mr. Grant met with the Ordination Council which included the following ministers of Conservative Baptist churches: the Rev. Robert Bell, Mrs. Bernice Butler, Austin Lord of the Conservative Baptist Church of Limestone, the Rev. Melvin Moody, the Rev. Richard Benoit, pastor of the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill, The Rev. Reuben Martin, Wilmot Churchill, Kenneth Peary and Mrs. Leslie Brewer of the host church.

In the evening the invocation was given by Mr. Bell. Mrs. Bernice Butler and the report of the ordination council. A solo, "The Love of God,'' was sung by Mr. Benoit. The ordination sermon was given by Mr. Martin. The Rev. Read Blackstone gave the ordination prayer and the charge to the candidate was conducted by Mr. Benoit. Mr. Bell welcomed Mr. Grant into the ministry and gave the newly ordained minister gave the benediction.

Mr. Grant is a graduate of Washburn High School and graduated in June from Bob Jones University completing his study in three and one half years. In 1956 he plans to enter a theological seminary to further study.

Following the ordination council meeting in the afternoon, a fellowship supper was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Churchill in honor of Mr. Grant with council members as guests. 1
