Baptist Pastor Given Farewell At Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE, Jan. 3 [1956] -- The Rev. Philip C. Hughey, pastor of the local Baptist Church, was honored at a farewell party at the church last week. About 300 people attended. Mr. Hughey left Monday to assume pastoral duties at Prospect Heights, Ill., Baptist church.

The evening's program consisted of testimonials, singing and serving of refreshments. Mr. Hughey was presented a gift from the church. The presentation was made by Church President Waldo Libby.

Mr. and Mrs. Hughey came to Presque Isle in 1954, following a pastorate at the Wadsworth Avenue Baptist church, New York City. He has been in the minstry for 33 years, was one of the founders of the Conservative Baptist Foreign Missions Society and assisted the organization of the Conservative Baptist Association of Maine.

Mr. Hughey helped establish the Aroostook Bible Camp at Allagash in 1948. 1
