C. H. Jardine, 85, Honored At Washburn

WASHBURN, April 20 [1956] -- Friends and relatives honored Charles H. Jardine last weekend on his 85th birthday anniversary.

Sunday morning, a group of 31 members of the family, including eight children, his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attended Washburn Methodist church.

At that time, the pastor, the Rev. Musk, cited Mr. Jardine's part in preparing the foundation for the church construction. Mr. Jardine is the last charter member of the church.

Soloist during the service was Carol Ann Grant of Augusta, a relative.

Only members unable to be present were John Sloat and son, Ronald, John is with the Air Force in Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Castleberry, Connie, Garry, Larry and Lisa, Safford, Ariz.,

and Private and Mrs. David Jardine and son, David, stationed in Massachusetts.

Sunday afternoon, the Jardine home was open to friends and neighbors. More than 100 called.

A highlight was the arrival Sunday of Mr. Jardine's niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Downing of Lebanon, Ore. They had timed their visit to coincide with the date. Accompanying them from Augusta were and Mrs. George M. Carter

Members of his family who came for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Grant, Carol Ann and Margaret, Augusta; Mrs. John M. Sloat, Cumberland Center: Autice Jardine, Orono: Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Rowe and Rachel, Skowhegan.

A dinner at the Jardine home Saturday night opened the two-day celebration.

Mr. Jardine received telephone calls from his niece. Mrs. Charlotte Carter, and her mother, Mrs. Charles Bugbee of Lubbock, Texas, and congratulatory telegram from his nephews and nieces in Oregon.

Many remembrances of flowers, books, cards and letters were received. The church members presented him a novelty money wheel.
