Lorne D. Pulcifer, about 30 of Churchill street, was rescued from the pool after he grabbed a floating log and was pulled to safety by rescuers.
According to witnesses, Levesque also grabbed the log but apparently lost his grip.
The boat was rented from Aroostook Farm Supply Company in Washburn. The pool was formed by damming the swift running waters of Salmon Brook.
Levesque, a mason by trade; is married to the former Glenna Conley. They have three children; Brenda, 13; and Mavis, 12, both attending Washburn High School; and Sterling Jr., aged nine.
Washburn, Presque Isle and Caribou fire departments took part in the rescue, using boats and grappling equipment. Three Presque Isle firemen found the body.
