Lady Notes 90th Year At Washburn

WASHBURN -- Mrs. Arthur E. Umphrey celebrated her 90th birthday at her home Thursday. Relatives and friends attended a party in her honor, given by her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Smith and her granddaughter, Mrs. Quentin Jardine. A luncheon was served including a cake made and served by Mrs. Jardine.

"Aunt Betty," as she is known by many of her friends, is a native of Skane, Sweden, coming to this country at the age of 12. She was married to Arthur Umphrey at the age of 19 and has resided at her present, home since. She has three sons and one daughter living, and two deceased; also 17 grandchildrgn, and 41 great grandchildren.

A purse of money, cut flowers and other gifts were received as well as many cards. She was also honored with telegrams from Governor John H. Reed of Augusta and Congressman and Mrs. Clifford McIntire.

Guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Umphrey, Mr. and Mrs. Heber Umphrey, Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Jardine and daughter Ruth: Mrs. Ernest Umphrey and daughter Doris, Mrs. Fred Umphrey; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dale Umphrey and children Robert and Vicki, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Nickerson; Mrs. Victoria Wilder, Mrs. Vera Bell, Mrs. Laurel Thompson, Mrs. Carrol Wilder, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Umphrey, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. Lesley Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Forman, Mrs. Levi Anderson, Mrs. F. F. Larrabee of Washburn.
