In the opinion of Mrs. Elfie Prescott, who will be 91 years old Wednesday, television is one of the greatest marvels of the ages. She says, with a humorous smile, "Television gave me my 'three boy friends'." Her 'three boy friends' are Ben Casey, Dr. Kildare and Perry Mason.
Mrs. Prescott makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fred W. Morton, 27 Wiley Street. Mrs. Morton will hold open house for her mother Wednesday afternoon.
Born in Levant September 19, 1871, Mrs. Prescott attended Levant and Washburn schools. She began teaching school and doing dressmaking when she was 16 years old; and has been making her own clothes ever since.
She was married to Sylvester E. Prescott April 9, 1892, in Kenduskeag. She has four children, Mrs. Elise Barrows, Ralph S. Prescott, Bernard S. Prescott and Mrs. Eona Morton, 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Prescott never gets bored, lives every minute, and keeps busy. She helps her daughter with the housework, does most of the cooking and in addition to watching television, is an avid reader.
She is full of fun and has a jolly disposition, which probably accounts for the fact that she has young people around her a great deal of the time. She also says that these "young people keep me young in mind, which in turn makes me young in years." She loves to go riding and visiting and to have visitors. Her pleasant smile and youthful personality are attributes some women half her age do not possess.
She has a life membership in Exeter's Eastern Star, was an associate matron in the group, and is a member of the Exeter Grange. Mrs. Prescott lived on a farm for 37 years after her marriage and moved to Bangor in 1928. She has seen many changes in transportation. She loves horses and drove them for many years before the automobile took over.
Mrs. Prescott has already received many gifts and a shower of birthday cards.
