WASHBURN -- Sharon Sponberg has been named valedictorian, Patsy Irving, salutatorian, and Linda Humphrey, third honor essayist of the graduating class of Washburn High School by Clifford Burkett, Principal.
Miss Sponberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sponberg, is editor-in-chief of the Northland Board yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society, is student council representative of her class and is president of the student council. She is past district president of the Future Homemakers of America, a member of the Future Teachers of America, and is in the cast of the senior play. She was a member of the Glee Club, Triple - mixed - quartet, French Club, Bowling Club and was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State. She was a participant in speaking contests for three years and was president of her class during her junior year. Miss Sponberg is completing the college course at Washburn High School. Miss Irving, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Irving is business Manager of the Northland Board yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Future Teachers of America, secretary of the French Club and a member of the Future, Homemakers of America, Glee Club. student council, participated in Junior Exhibition and is in the cast of the senior play. She is completing the college course at Washburn High School and has been accepted at the University of Maine.
Miss Humphrey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Humphrey is a senior editor of the Northland Board yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society, secretary of her senior class, president of the Tri-Hi-Y club, a member of the Bowling Club, Commercial Club, French Club and is in the cast of the senior play. She was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State, participated in the Junior Exhibition and was active in basketball.
Upon completion of the general course she plans to enter the Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing.
