WASHBURN--Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Umphrey of Washburn was feted at an open house at their home on Wilder Street Sunday afternoon and evening on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event was arranged by their family. Hostess was their daughter, Mrs. Quentin Jardine.
Mrs. Umphrey was presented a corsage of white carnations by her son. Heber, and Mr. Umphrey was presented a boutonniere. The refreshment table was centered with a floral arrangement of with mums flanked by tapers. Mrs. Viola Peary was in charge of the gift table and the couple was presented a money tree, money fan, and other gifts.
The guest book was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Forman. Dipping punch was Mr. Umphrey's sister, Mrs. Myrtle Smith. and the couple's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Heber Umphrey. The wedding cake, made by their daughter. Mrs. Jardine, was cut by Mrs. Robert Forman and served by Miss Robyn Forman. Entertainment was provided during the evening by Waldron Babbidge and Jack Stoddard. Phone calls were received by the couple from their grandchildren, Roger Jardine at Wheaton, Ill. and Miss Ruth Jardine at Oak Park. Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Umphrey were marred May 27. 1913, at the United Baptist parsonage in Presque Isle by the Rev. Henry G. Clark. They resided in Perham for 13 years and since 1928 have made their home in Washburn. They have a son, Heber, of Washburn; two daughters, Mrs. Quentin Jardine of Washburn and Avis Johnson of Old Seabrook, Conn., and 10 grandchildren, Roger and Ruth Jardine. Christine, Deborah and Brian Johnson, James Patrick, Daniel, Peter and Laurie Umphrey.
