WASHBURN--Carl Hodges, a graduate of the New Brunswick Bible Institute in Victoria, N. B. was ordained Friday at a service held in the Conservative Baptist Church in Washburn.
The Rev. Hodges is a former resident of Washburn.
A council meeting was held Friday afternoon and the service Friday evening. During the evening service the prelude was by Mrs. Peggy Foreman at the piano and Roger Jardine at the organ.
The invocation was given by the Rev. Erle Morse of the Conservative Baptist Church at Limestone. A report of the Ordination Council was given by the clerk, Mrs. Adeline Brewer. Robert Dowie of the New Brunswick Bible Institute gave the Scripture reading. Music was a duet by Mrs. Peggy Foreman and Mrs. Adeline Brewer.
The Rev. Kenneth Foss, pastor of the People's Church in Hartland, N. B. gave the ordination sermon and the charge to the candidate was given by Mark Bredin of the New Brunswick Bible Institute.
The ordination to the church was given by the Rev. Phillip Hughey, pastor of the Allagash Baptist Church in Allagash.
A welcome to the ministry was extended to the Rev. Mr. Hodges by the Rev. Wayne Thompson of the Baptist Church at East Hodgdon, followed by the charge to the church by the Rev. Quentin Johnson of the United Baptist Church at Presque Isle.
Hymn singing was held during the program and the benediction was given by the Rev. Norman Bronson of the Baptist Church at Charlotte. Other churches and their pastors represented at the council meeting were the Rev. Foster Nelson of the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill, and the Rev. Medley Wry of the Conservative Baptist Church at Washburn.
Mr. Hodges will leave for the Republic of Tchad, Africa, as a missionary under the Sudan United Missions.
