Washburn Couple Wed 48 Years

WASHBURN - Mr. and Mrs. William Staples of Washburn were honored by their daughter, Mrs. Herbert Jardine, at a service at the Dunntown Advent Christian Church honoring their 48th wedding anniversary Sunday.

The Rev. Read Blackstone presided over the program. An appropriate hymn was sung by the congregation at the request of Mrs. Staples. Prayer was offered by the Rev. Mr. Blackstone. A special number was sung by Lloyd and Clayton Blackstone with Mrs. Addie Blackstone at the piano.

Two poems were presented by Mrs. Jardine, their daughter, for her father as a tribute to her mother, and as her tribute to both her parents.

Mrs. Staples was presented a bouquet of flowers. The Rev. Mr. Blackstone presented the couple with a certificate of marriage for 48 years. Mrs. Donald Blackstone of Presque lsle sang a solo. A money tree was presented and many cards were received.

In the receiving line with Mr. and Mrs. Staples were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dickinson, who also have been married 48 years. Mrs. Axie Fox circulated the guest book. Refreshments were served in the church dining room with the aid of the Dunntown Advent Christian Church Circle under the leadership of Mrs. Rena Adams.

Mrs. Elvie Bubar served coffee and pouring tea was Mrs. Amasa Butterfield of Woodland. Mrs. Lloyd Blackstone dipped punch. The wedding cake, made by Mrs. Doris Philbrook, was served by their daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Brown of Presque Isle, after the first slice had been cut by the anniversary couple.
