WASHBURN - Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Barker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house Saturday afternoon and evening given by their children at the IOOF dining hall.
The buffet table was centered with an anniversary cake, made by Mrs. Kay Corey. Cutting the cake was Regina Roope, a granddaughter. Serving were Mrs. Mary Humphrey, Mrs. Margaret Barker, Mrs. Jean Barker, Mrs. Jeanette Barker, Joyce Barker and Mrs. Lottie Barker. Circulating the guest book were Falicia Barker, Clita Barker, and Carol Barker, granddaughters. Brenda Barker, Lona Barker, and Barbara Rideout granddaughters, presided at the gift table. Assisting with the serving in the kitchen were Jolita Churchill and Nan Buckingham, grand-daughters.
The couple were presented a money tree and cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Barker were married March 28, 1914 at the Methodist Parsonage at Washburn. They were attended by Mrs. Mina Carman of Washburn and the late Ashton King.
The couple have 10 living children, five daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Tozier of Houlton, Mrs. Georgia Cornell of Jamesburg, N. J., Mrs. Bertha Humphrey of Washburn, Mrs. Opal Hakanson of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Betty Tarbox of Ashland, Ore.; and five sons, Everett and Thomas of Washburn, Oliver of Bar Harbor, Gary of Berwick and Dale of Presque Isle.
A son, Alexander, is deceased. The couple also has 31 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Barker are life-long residents of Washburn, Mr. Barker is a member of Industry Lodge. Mrs. Barker is a member of Prosperity Rebekah Lodge.
