Fete Held For Head Of Bank

WASHBURN-Laurel Thompson, president of Washburn Trust Company; was honored Monday by the director and employes of the company on his 25th year as head of the company. Thompson has been associated with Washburn Trust Company for 39 years, and he replaced Andrew Beck 25 years ago.

Thompson served as president of the Maine Bankers Association in 1955, member of the Country Banks Operations Committee of the American Bankers Association three years and is currently a member of the sub-committee on Agricultural Credit of the Legislative Committee of the American Bankers Association. In 1956, President Thompson was awarded an honorary M.A. degree by Colby College. He is a trustee of Ricker College, a director of Aroostook Valley Railroad and the director of the United Mutual Insurance Company.

President Thompson received a bouquet of flowers for his desk and Mrs. Thompson was presented a corsage. Gifts from the, employes were presented by Melvin Higgins and gifts from the directors Were presented by Vaughan W. Parsons.

Messages of congratulations were received from the Washburn Rotary Club, Northern National Bank, Andrew Beck, former president, Harry Umphrey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and by several phone calls.

An anniversary cake and refreshments were served. Attending were employes and directors, Fred Beck, Carroll Blackstone, J. Arthur Collier, Abram Crouse, Charles McIntire, Leo Morin, Frank Morse, S. Boone Packard, J. C. McCall, Edmund Rollins, Vaughan W. Parsons and George Sawyer.
