WASHBURN - Miss Cheryl Cockey, has been named valedictorian, Francis Wilcox, salutatorian, and Roger Crouse third honor essay of the graduating class of Washburn High School by Carleton Barnes, principal.
Miss Cockey, the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Carlton Cockey, of Perham, is editor-in-chief of the Northland, a member of the senior play cast, a member of the National Honor Society, the French Club, the Future Teachers Club, and the Tri-Hi-Y Club. She transferred to Washburn High School from Cherryfield Academy in 1961. She has been a member of the band, a pianist for the Glee Club, vice president of her class her junior year, a student council member and a delegate to Dirigo Girls State.
Miss Cockey has been accepted at the University of Maine where she will major in mathematics.
Wilcox, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vinal Wilcox, of 22 Main Street, Washburn, has been active in sports by participating in basketball, volleyball, cross country and track. He is president of the National Honor Society. He has been president of the science club, a member of the Glee Club, a member of the bowling club and the HI-Y Club.
Wilcox has been accepted at the University of Maine where he will major in mechanical engineering.
Roger Crouse, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crouse of Crouseville, is the Northland business manager, a member of the band, National Honor Society, student council, French Club and senior play cast member. He was a delegate of Dirigo Boys State last year.
Crouse plans to attend Wentworth Institute in Boston where he will major in Architectural Engineering Technology.
The fourth place in the 1964 graduating class was tied between Thomas Humphrey, son of Mr. and Milford Humphrey, and Robert Huston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Perley Huston.
