Washburn Couple Feted On 50th Anniversary

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Allen, Sr. honored their parents on their 50th wedding anniversary, by holding open house for them on Saturday, June 24 [1967] in the afternoon and evening at their home in Washburn.

Over 150 guests including many relatives from Fredericton, N. B. and Augusta gathered to congratulate and shower them with many gifts including two lovely money trees and to extend greetings.

Mr. and Mrs. Murray Allen Jr. stood up with them for the event Mrs. Allen Sr. wore a light corn flower blue two piece suit and complimented her suit with a yellow sweet heart rose corsage. Mrs. Allen Jr. wore a beige and gold suit and wore a yellow mum corsage.

Those who assisted in serving were Mr. and Mrs. Owen Allen, Mrs. Evelyn Flanigan cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Ona Allen at the punch bowl and Mrs. Marguerite Flewelling: as hostess for the day.

The couple had a three tier-red wedding cake plus a his and her heart shaped cake which were made by their daughter, Marguerite.

Miss Beth Flewelling was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. Peter Golding was at the gift table.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen have lived in Washburn since 1926. They moved to Washburn from Fredericton, N. B., Canada. Mr. Allen has always worked on a farm and Mrs. Allen was a practical nurse for over eight years. She ran the "Allen Maternity Hospital" in Washburn, also a convalescent home. Both are retired.

They have been very active in the Pentecostal Church here for over 40 years.

Mrs. Allen is president of the Women's Mission Council and Mr. Allen is now serving as Trustee.

One of the treasured events in their lives is that the recall is when after tragedy struck and Mr. Allen's brother and wife died and left eight small children, they quietly took into their home and heart to raise as their own, namely Owen Allen, Evelyn (Allen) Flanigan of Washburn, and June Allen Crawford of Gardiner Maine.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen have two chirdren Marguerite Flewelling, Merideth, N. H. and Murray Jr. of Washburn and one son, Vincent is deceased. They have-15 grandchildren.

These two people have many friends which hold them as truly good neighbors in time of need.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen wish to extend thanks to all who helped them celebrate.
