Aroostook League Speaking Champs
Miss Sylvia Blackstone of Washburn and Michael Eisensmith of Fort Fairfield (center) were named first place winners in the Aroostook League Speaking Contest held Friday at Presque Isle. Mrs. Myrna McGaifin (left) of the Washburn High School faculty was Miss Blackstone's advisor and Mrs. Francis Strout (right) of Fort Fairfield High School was Eisensmith's advisor. Judges were Mrs. Margaret Coffin, Jere Green and Ronald Dow, all Aroostook State College faculty members. Other speakers in the contest were Frederick Fletcher, Caribou; Miss Susan Hansen, Presque Isle; Edrick Flewelling, Washburn; Paula Day, Houlton; Robert Whited, Mars Hill; Michele Knight, Fort Fairfield; Scott Smith, Presque Isle, who was boys' runner-up; Dana Cheney, Houlton; Miss Claire Crichton, Mars Hill, girls' Runner-up and Miss Martha Richmore of Caribou.
