Charged With Hammering Car Windows

WASHBURN -- a 64-year-old Washburn man charged with smashing out all the windows in his ex-wife's motor vehicle with a hammer and with assault on his former mate remained in the county jail at Houlton Friday, following court action in Caribou.

District Court records in Caribou Friday showed that Harden Corey pleaded guilty Wednesday to malicious mischief to a motor vehicle Sunday in Washburn. The complainant, Bessie Corey, charged the elderly man with injuring and defacing her motor vehicle to the tune of $296.

Judge Melvin E. Anderson found Corey guilty and ordered him to serve six months in the county jail. Corey appealed the sentence to the November term of Superior Court, was unable to post $1,000 bail set in the appeal and was ordered committed to the county jail at Houlton.

A complaint notation stated that a warrant was issued for the Washburn man's arrest Monday.

A second charge against Corey, of assault on Bessie Corey in Washburn Sunday, was continued Wednesday to Nov. 8, [1967] after the State Police complained. 1
