600 Attend 'Open House' At New Washburn School

Washburn - Approximately 600 attended "Open House" exercises at the new Washburn District High School Sunday afternoon.

The National Anthem was played by the Washburn District Band directed by Waldron Babbidge. Invocation was given by the Rev. Eric Davidson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Washburn

Greetings and introduction of guests were extended by Willis Laskey, chairman of Board of Directors, SAD #45. Guests were; Ralph M. Boderson, Herman Bell, Abel Brissette, Eugene Brown, Arnold A. Davis, Basil S. Fox, Albert L. Hobbs, James McBrearity, Arthur Plissey, member of the school board; William Foster, superintendent SAD #45; Carleton L. Barnes, principal of Washburn District High School; Architect Kenneth E. Jackson, contractor, Alonzo E. Flewelling. A selection, "Kentucky Eighteen Hundred", was played by the Band after which Dr. Clifford O. T. Wieden, president of Aroostook Teachers College, addressed the group.

The Band played "In The Mod" and the Benediction was given by the Rev. Relland Clark, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Perham.

After the formal ceremonies a guided tour of the building was directed by the young ladies of the Junior and Senior classes. Refreshments were served in the home economics room.
