The panel returned two murder indictments, one against 34-year-old Emery Dow of Presque Isle, who allegedly killed Burton Randall of Wade on Oct. 21 [1967] at Washburn, and another against Richard Alexander Tompkins, 27, of Detroit, who allegedly killed Ann Tompkins at Blaine on Oct. 2.
The all-tirne high list of indictments returned by the Grand Jury after one of the longest sessions of sitting in recent years, brought 70 true bills, 32 of them secret, and 21 no bills.
The grand jury, after reporting to Presiding Justice James P. Archibald of Houlton, Tuesday, were dismissed, subject to recall in the event of any special sessions.
Dow is charged by State Police in the shooting death.
Following a 45-minute testimony in preliminary hearing by a 33-year-old former waitress and Washburn woman, Mrs. Lila Baker, probable cause was found Nov. 6 against Dow, by Judge Robert J. Browne and he was remanded to the county jail here without bail to await grand jury action.
Dow is being represented by attorneys Harold L. Stewart and Albert M. Stevens, both of Presque Isle.
