Colie Giggie Wins Trip

"I just could not believe it," said Mr. Colie Giggie. What he could not believe was that he had won a trip to Miami and Nassau, with all expenses paid.

Mr. Giggie is a potato and cattle farmer on the McConville Road in Presque Isle.

The trip that he won includes a round trip to Miami and Nassau for two with four of the seven days and nights spent in Miami. The trip Is the grand prize of the Miami - Nassau Days, a project sponsored by the retail Merchants Bureau of the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce. The ticket was drawn at 5:30 p.m. at the WAGM television station by Miss Presque Isle Miss Susan Hansen. Present at the drawing was the chairman of the Miami-Nassau promotion, Larry Goldsmith.

When asked who was going with him on the trip, Mr. Giggie replied, "I have had many offers but I haven't decided yet," Mrs. Giggie did know the right answer though and stated it very plainly. "If he doesn't know, I do.'' Her only uncertainty was what to wear.

The Giggies have four children, and according to Mrs. Giggie, "The kids are all for it and have volunteered to take care of the farm while we are gone." The 'kids' are Lois, 22, Gregory, 20, Elbridge, 18, and Jeffery, 16. Lois is employed by the Maine Public Service, Greg is a graduate of the University of Maine and is employed at the State Experimental Farm on the Houlton Road. Elbridge is a 1968 graduate of Presque Isle High School and plans to attend the University, and Jeffery is a junior at Presque Isle High School.

The Giggies learned of their trip while watching television. According to Mr. Giggie, "We didn't even know that the drawing was going to be tonight. We watch television every night.'' Mrs. Giggie said that her husband had only entered the contest a couple of times at a local bank and an auto dealership.

When asked what he wanted most before the coming trip, Mr. Giggie replied, ''For someone to write Castro a note and tell him not to hi-jack the plane that we will be on."

The happy people have not as yet set a date for their departure for the sunny parts, but both of them hope that it will be soon.
