Youth's Arm Is Removed

A 13-year-old Castle Hill youth was termed in "satisfactory condition" by Arthur R. Gould Memorial Hospital officials here late yesterday following amputation of his right arm which became caught in a potato harvesting machine at 10:45 a.m.

The victim, Terry Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward N. Wood, had his arm taken off three inches below the shoulder at the site of the accident by Drs. Arthur P. Reynolds and Howard I. Foy who were called to the scene.

The Wood boy was the second victim of the harvest season to be hospitalized here in less than 24 hours, Monday afternoon, Frederic W. Donovan, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Donovan of the Portage Road in Ashland suffered a fractured wrist and other bruises after he fell 20 feet to a cement ftoor in his father's potato house.

His condition yesterday was also reported as "satisfactory."

The Castle Hill youth was working on the back of his father's harvesting machine when his arm was caught. The farm is located on the Slate Road. The physicians were forced to amputate the limb when it could not be freed from the machine.

The two doctors were assisted by Michael Shafman, a laboratory technician at the hospital.
