Butterfields Observe 60th Anniversary

PERHAM -- Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Butterfield, in observance of their 60th wedding anniversary, held open house at their farm home on the South Road, Friday.

The Butterfields were married October 12, 1908 in the Catholic Church vestry at Caribou. Rev. Magill performed the ceremony.

In 1913 they moved to the Farm in Perham, where they now reside. Mr. Butterfield, now a retired farmer, keeps busy with his vegetable garden and assists his farm neighbors with their spring planting and fall harvesting.

They have three children, Donald of Caribou, Mrs, Paul (Ella) Burns of Needham, Mass., and Mrs. Harold (Audrey) Alderman, of San Diego, Cal.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The Perham Baptist Church ladies assisted with refreshments, as did Mrs. Paul Burns. Mrs. William Staples and Mrs. Richard Hallowell poured. Approximately 80 guests attended.

Mrs. Butterfield was born at Fort Fairfield, Aug. 18, 1887, the daughter of Ella (Field) and John Parker. The Parkers moved from Fort Fairfield to Iowa, from there to Limestone and later to Perham. Mrs. Butterfield attended the grade schools in Perham, and went to Caribou High School. Mr. Butterfield, the son of Elmire (Allard) and William Butterfield, was born in Castle Hill Oct, 19, 1886.

He attended the Castle Hill schools. Later, with his parents, he moved to Perham. At the age of 16 he went to the woods to work as a lumberman.

Mrs. Butterfield taught school prior to her marriage, and after her family had grown up, she did practical nursing and worked in the foods processing plant in Washburn.

Out-of-State guests were their daughter, Mrs. Paul Burns, of Needham, Mass.; and their niece, Mrs. Ethel Therriault, of Westboro. Mass.
