Superintendant Retired From SAD 45

WASHBURN -- William C. Foster. who has been Superintendent of Schools in Washburn and SAD 45 for the past 18 years, has resigned his position due to health reasons, and the SAD 45 directors currently are seeking a replacement to resume the duties of the superintendency immediately.

Mr. Foster retired following a career in education covering a span of 37 years. He served nine years in Princeton before coming to Washburn 28 years ago. Before assuming the superintendency, he served 10 years as principal of the high school.

Educator Retires at Washburn

WASHBURN -- William C. Foster, superintendent of School Administrative District 45, which includes the towns of Washburn, Wade and Perham, retired Friday after 34 years in Education.

Foster, a native of Forest City, spent his first seven years in education as principal of Princeton High School, moving to Washburn in the fall of 1941 and served as principal and basketball coach until 1952, at which time he became the superintendent.

He received a Baccalaureate Degree from Colby College and his Masters Degree from the University of Maine.

He has been a member and past president of the Washburn Rotary Club and is a member of the National Association of School Administrators, the State Superintendent's Association, Maine Teachers Association, National Education Association, a former member of the State Principals Association, in which he held many offices, and an honorary member of the Washburn High School Alumni Association, and the Future Farmers Association.

Foster has three children, two of whom are also educators. Donald, a graduate of Washington State College is teaching in Rockland and Mrs. Brian Ketchum of Mars Hill is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Nursing. Mrs. Bruce King of Gardner, a graduate of the University of Maine, will teach this fall. 1
