Barnes Becomes SAD 45 Head

WASHBURN -- Willis E. Laskey, chairman of the Board of directors of S.A.D. #45 has announced the appointment of Carleton L. Barnes of Washburn to the position of superintendent of schools.

Barnes' experience in education consists of two years as social science teacher at Mattawamkeag High School. two years as teaching principal at Pembrook High School, and six years as principal of Washburn District High School. He received a bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Maine and is presently enrolled in a program of study for an advanced degree.

Barnes is a member or the State Principals Association, Maine Teachers Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals and also has been president of the Aroostook League, Washburn Teachers Club and president of the Washburn Rotary Club. He has served on the board of directors. Northern District Y. M. C. A. and is a past member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge. He has served with the U. S. Army in Korea.

A native of Mars Hill, he is the son of Mrs. Angie Barnes and is married to the former Gloria Flemming of Houlton.

They have two daughters, Cynthia 10, and Susan 6.
