Principal Named At Washburn

WASHBURN -- Dana Hews has been appointed principal of Washburn District High School.

His experience in education consists of two years at Ashland High School as teacher of biology, general science, physical education and varsity basketball coach. For the past 11 years, he has been of the faculty at Presque Isle High School as teacher of health, physical education and biology. He has been vocational guidance counselor for the past two years at Presque Isle, and has also served as varsity basketball coach and Varsity soccer coach.

Hews attended Springfield College, Springfield, Mass., and received a B. S. degree in 1952. He received his Massters degree from Springfield College Graduate School in 1956. He has also done post-graduate work at the University of Maine.

He is a member of the Maine Teachers Association, National Education Association, Presque Isle Teachers Club, Maine Coaches Association, County and State Personnel and Guidance Association, Maine Associations for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and International Approved Board of Basketball Officials. He has served as President and vice president on the executive committee of the Presque Isle Teachers Club and was a local and County delegate to the National Education Association Convention in New York City.

A native of Ashland, he is married to the former Virginia Reed, of Mapleton. The Hews have five children and live in Crouseville.
