Mrs. Estey was born in Brazil Lake, Yarmouth County, N. S., March 8, 1879, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Whitehouse. She came to Washburn at the age of nine years, and has lived here since.
She married Harley Estey, of Washburn, and they settled on a farm on the Caribou road, and in 1926 they moved to the village. Mrs. Estey has been at her present location for 44 years, Mr. Estey having passed away several years ago.
Her family is Mrs. Pearl Learnard, Mrs. Verna Churchill and Kenneth Estey, all of Washburn, and Mrs. Carroll (Glenna) Blackstone of Perham. She has ten grandchildren, 15 great grand-children and four great great grandchildren.
She does some of her housework, even though dependent upon a walker. She also enjoys reading. Always having been musical, she plays her piano and sings, and for years was a choir member of the Washburn Baptist Church. She entertained her birthday guests with music, both instrumental and vocal. Her memory is exceptionally good, as is her health. Her son, Kenneth, lives at home with her.
She received gifts of money, many cards, and telephone calls from her granddaughters, Mrs. James Doak of Southington, Conn., and Mrs. Harold Merrill of Rothsay, N. B. The following were guests: George Young, Philip White, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Peary, Mrs. and Mrs. Wayne Churchill, Mrs. Myrtle Smith, Mrs. Mildred Brown, Mrs. Lailla Greenlaw, Mrs. William Jardine, Mrs. Orin Wilder, Mrs. Murray Allen, Jr., Miss Lois Learnard, Miss Mavis Churchill, Miss Belinda Churchill, Miss Eva Crawford, all of Washburn; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Blackstone, Perham.
The cake was made by Mrs. George Young.
