Report Honors Italian Native And His Wife

WASHBURN -- The municipal officers of Washburn take great pride in dedicating their 1971 annual town report to Mr. and Mrs. James Corapi.

Born in Italy, Oct. 13 ,1886, Corapi came to Washburn in l910 during the building of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad from Stockholm to Mapleton. He liked the town so well that he started a grocery store on the corner of Churchill and Main Streets in the year of 1913.

Feb. 28, 1931, he married Mrs. Gladys Webber. They have four children, two boys end two girls.

In 1944 he moved to his present location on South Main Street.

In 1952, his wife, Gladys took over the Washburn Fire department alarm system and has faithfully performed her duties in that capacity until Feb. 1, 1971.

The town stated "We are proud to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Corapi for their many years of service both as a merchant and public servant of their 40 years of married life.
