Approximately 45 relatives attended from verious locales in Maine. Those present represented a grand total of more than 200 living children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who owe their "start" to Grammy Langley.
Effie Clark, the daughter of Andrew and Lorraine (Grant) Clark, was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and grew up in the Caribou-Woodland area, the oldest of three children. At the age of 17, in 1899, she left home to marry Perry Langley of Caribou. Of the 11 children born to them, four died in infancy and six are still living.
Mr. and Mrs. Langley owned several farms in the Perham-Woodland area during a half century of their married life. In August of 1959 the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Langley died the following year.
Since then, Mrs. Langley has resided with her daughter, Mrs. John (Verna) Dickinson of Washburn. She is a member of the Washburn Pentecostal Church and attends regularly.
After years of knitting, crocheting and just plain "doing" for her children and theirs, she still hasn't given up the "needle." Now there are more than 76 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren who welcome "Grammy's" handicraft.
Those attending included her daughter, Mrs. Winfield Langley, and husband; son, Colby Langley, and wife; and daughter, Mrs. John Dickinson, and husband.
