Mom Jaskolka’s Peanut Butter Cookies

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening (crisco recommeded by the Jaskolka’s)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Preheat oven to 350.

Cream sugar, shortening & peanut butter. Beat in egg & vanilla. Stir dry ingredients and add to peanut butter mixture. Break off dough the size of your thumb. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Pat with fork making criss cross marks. Bake for 10-12 minutes, slightly longer if using air bake type pans. Cool slightly before removing from sheet.

It is usually appreciated by the chocolate lovers of the universe when a Hershey’s Kiss is placed in the middle of the cookie before baking.
